Music Magazine front covers

To help with my final design of a front cover I looked into music magazines to see what they all include on there front covers.
All music magazines will include a:
  • Main Image -  This will most likely be the main artist throughout this magazine
  • Price and Barcode - To make it clear to people before they buy the magazine how much it is.
  • Masthead- The name of the magazine should be bold and eye catching to make it attract their target audience.
  • Sell lines-  These can be used in two different contexts and will attract the audience's attention.
  • Colour scheme - The colour scheme runs throughout the whole of the magazine to make it look neatier.
These are my ideas for my music magazine front cover:
  • Main image -  The main image for my music magazine is of a new artist that i have made up. 'Jodee' who is the new artist who i decided to do an interview on and also put her on the front cover.
  • Price and Barcode - When we did a questionnaire on our target audience the price that most people said they were most likely to pay for a music magazine was £2 to make our audience happy we thought about putting it at around  £1.80.
  • Masthead - We decided the name of our music magazine to be 'collision' as we have merged genres together to suit our target audiences.
  • Sell lines - I haven't decided what the sell lines will say but they will grab the readers attention and will be relevant to the music magazine
  • Colour Scheme - The colour scheme for our music magazine is black, white and then every other week we make a magazine we will have a bright bold colour.

Target audience and house style

These are some of our ideas on what to include in the magazine thinking about the target audience and the house style. We thought about the age ranges, colour and fonts, regular features and types of music the audience will enjoy.

contents page for school magazine

This is the contents page which goes with our school magazine. To make it fit in with our magazine we have matched the theme of colours which is blue. Although we havent used white on the front of our magazine it makes each page different and stands out well. There are alot of different articles which will appeal to all ages within the school. We have also placed pictures on the contents page to make it more interesting and to give students and idea of whats on each page. The white background on the pictures also make them stand out and go with the theme.

New school magazine cover - edited

We changed our first draft of a school magazine by:
  1. Making the picture suitable for the perliminiary task - medium close up. On our first magazine it did not fit the task so we took another picture of a student at a computer with a medium close up. This meant that we changed the caption for the picture to be 'new computer suite' so it matches the picture and people get an idea of what its about.
  2. We changed the name of the magazine at first we had 'aim high' but that wasn't very clear so we changed it to 'fairfield school' to make it clearer what the magazine is about.
  3. We made the magazine have a price so if there was any competitions in some issues of the magazine students who produce the magazine would be able to buy a prize for the winners.

CHANGES TO OUR SCHOOL MAGAZINE

1st draft  This is our first draft of our school magazine which we decided to call 'Aim High'. The picture we chose was relevant to the article we placed on the magazine called 'Top science A levels' and we chose to use a purple scheme for the front cover to make it a bit different. Once we had finished our first draft for the magazine we got some feedback from other students the points they made about our magazine were:
1)The text is laid out well around the picture and is not too crowded.
2)The text colour doesnt stand out very well over the picture.
We've decided to change the colour of the text to make sure it stands out and is easy for everyone to read. We will decide on a different colour scheme that will suit the magazine.
3)There is not much text on the magazine which is not relevant to all age ranges.
The only text we have on the magazine is ' top science A levels' and ' sixth form fashion' which doesnt appeal to all age ranges within the school. To change this we will have more articles relevant to year 7's to year 13's and even a page for teachers to get the whole school involved.
The other parts of the magazine we are going to change is the picture although other students liked the picture it doesnt match the preliminary exercise as its not a medium close up.

IDEAS FOR SCHOOL MAGAZINE

When considering to create a school magazine I thought about all the different types of articles that could be put into it. There could be articles from both students and teachers so theres more of a variety, articles informing students of anything happening around the school, fashion pages for sixth form students deciding on what to wear, charity events, competitions, achievements throughout the school, upcoming events and school trips with photos on how well it went with student and teachers views.
The audience for the school magazine would be all years throughout the school including staff. This means the ages would range from 12-18 which is important to make sure there is a variety of information which will include all ages.
