For my preliminiary task, I had to create a front cover for a school magazine aimed at all years. Throughout the process of making both of my magazines I have learnt alot about the technologies and techniques used. When making both magazines I considered the target audience and what they would want to see there were
many different responses and opinions. When creating the school magazine I did not have as much time to make a survey and collect responses on it to see what people would want in the magazine so I had to base it around what I think all years would like too see in a school magazine. I had a lot more time when creating my music magazine which meant that I could get a better idea of how to use the technology and things that were new too me I was also able to make a survey and collect responses from my target audience this made it a lot easier for me as when I was creating the music magazine I could add things that I know my target audience would enjoy because of the survey. For example In the survey for one of the questions I asked : What would you like to see in a new music magazine? the options were:
Posters, Free CD's, Gig or festival tickets, Upcoming music events, Competitions and Other. Nine out of twelve people said gig or festival tickets. To please my target audience on the front of my music magazine I put free reading tickets to be won. This would hopefully attract my audience a lot more.
The perliminiary task helped me to get more knowledge on which softwares are best to use and how magazines are layed out and structured. As I was in the age range for the audience of both my school and music magazine I could put some of my own knowledge and things that I would like to see in the magazine which made it a lot easier as I had an idea of what people my age would want too see. Now I have created two magazines using similar software and audiences I think I would find it a lot easier to make another magazine now that I know what research and how much time you have to put into the final outcome.

Question 6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
In the process of creating my media product I used different types of technologies and softwares to help produce it to the best of it's ability. The technologies I used are: Dell laptop, Samsung camera, Memory stick, Hotmail, Prezi, Picnik, Powerpoint, Slideshare, Serif page plus 11, Paint, Survey Monkey, Blogger and Facebook. I was familiar with many of the programmes I used but some of them I had not used before. Mostly all of my work producced was on my laptop and then posted onto my online blog using the blogger website. I did write some posts on paper and then take a picture of them on my camera which I then uploaded to blogger. My main magazine was mostly constructed using the software serif page plus 11. Although I had already used this software before there were still some things I was unsure about which helped me to learn new techniques. Learning new techniques and various tricks help me to make my music magazine right for my target audience. I created powerpoints to help show my research on music magazines which I then converted using slideshare in order to post it onto my blog. I also used prezi powerpoints to help upload my photos and surveys onto my blog. These are two examples of the many techniques I have learnt throughout the process of creating my music magazine.
Question 2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The magazine I have produced is targeted at sixteen to twenty four year olds which I believe it does. Although I haven't focused on one main social group for my magazine as I didn't want my target audience to feel singled out or for some of them to not feel apart of the magazine. I have included a range of genres
and popular music in the charts at the moment which will target a range of social groups this way everyone can enjoy my magazine. I feel my music magazine is different to many others as alot of the music magazines focus on one genre. Although I have picked an age range of sixteen to twenty four year olds I still didn't want to pick a specific social group as I wanted many people to be in invovled and for them to enjoy my magazine. I have made up a new artist who is eighteen which is inbetween the age range for my magazine as they wouldn't want a really young artist at the age of thirteen for example as thats more for younger children.
I think that if I was to say a main social group then I would pick people who are into different types of music and do not just focus on the one genre, hopefully my magazine will attract a few different people from different social groups as that's what i've aimed to achieve by involving different genres within the music magazine.

NEW ARTIST
I decided to create a new music artist for my magazine. I decided to do this so I could base it around my music magazine and my target audience. As the magazine involves a few genres the new artist also helps to show this.
I have decided to make my new artist 'Jodee' an indie artist who also enjoys mixing genres within her own music. I have also used my new artist on the double page spread for an exclusive interview so people can get to know her more. The new artist is eighteen years old which is in between my target audiences from sixteen to twenty four and will hopefully be liked my both genders.
These are only four of the pictures I have taken and I also edited them so that instead of her having black hair she has read and brighter eyes to help portray a more indie look.

Music magazine drafts
These are my ideas for my music magazine which I first created before I had researched into my target audience. After I had researched into my target audience and looked at more music magazines I had a better understanding of music magazines. This helped me to create my final magazine.
